Formal Suit Hire Prices

The formal suit is one that is very popular and can be used at a wide variety of occasions. The word “formal” can be applied to wedding, business functions, banquets, balls and proms and there is a choice of suit for every type of event. Going out and buying a suit for each situation will be extremely costly as even one suit can set you back hundreds of pounds. If you were to buy just one suit the chances are it wouldn’t be suitable for all occasions; for instance, a wedding suit will not be ideal if you were attending a black-tie dinner and vice versa. There is a way to get around these problems and that is suit hire.

Formal suit hire prices are much cheaper than buying, and it is more efficient to purchase a suit short-term when it is only likely to be used as a one-off. Hiring also allows you to choose from a vast range of styles, colours, fabrics and sizes meaning you can attend an event in something new every time.

How much does a formal suit cost to hire?

The answer to the question of formal suit hire prices depends on a lot of factors, the size, fabric and type of suit you choose will impact on price as will the shop you choose to hire from. Like with any other purchase, it is highly recommended that you take the time (if you have it), to look around and find the best deals before making a final decision on a suit.

If you are attending a black-tie event, you may opt for a single or double-breasted jacket. Formal suit hire prices for these kinds of suits are often very reasonable, and you may be able to hire a package for around £30-£40. This price will often be for cotton or linen suits, if you were looking for velvet, silk or fine wool suits then you should expect to pay £15-£20 more. A package will consist of the suit and the following items:
  • A wing or regular collar shirt
  • Tie/bow tie
  • Waist coat
  • Cummerbund
Of course, you can hire a suit on its own, and this will be cheaper but a package is ideal for providing everything needed for an event. Most packages will include either a waistcoat or a cummerbund; this is because etiquette generally says both should not be worn together. Tuxedos are also popular for black tie events and proms and are available at a similar price.

Wedding suits are generally at the top end of formal suit hire prices. This kind of outfit will almost always come in a package, inclusive of all attire needed for the big day. It is possible to hire a wedding suit for around £55-£60 although hire can easily amount to over a hundred. Many traditional and church weddings have the groom, best man, fathers of bride and groom and page boys dress identically. Ordering five or six suits at one time often leads to discounted rates, bringing the overall price of hire down.
